Voluntary Action Kirklees Rural Support Project

Voluntary Action Kirklees Rural Support Project offers help to voluntary and community groups based or working in Kirklees rural areas. We are able to offer guidance, information, training and a range of practical help.

A worker from the project can help your group assess your needs and look at how the project can help you deliver your activities more effectively.

What kinds of help can the Rural Support Project offer?

Information and Guidance; Training; Practical Help...

Groups can arrange for a worker to visit them to help with:

  • Development of constitutions/legal structures
  • Charity registration
  • Management committee development
  • Recruiting and supporting volunteers
  • Policy development
  • Financial management
  • Employing staff
  • Business planning
  • Funding
  • Quality assurance systems
  • Training needs analysis

Here are a few examples of the kind of support the project can offer:

We have helped groups write constitutions and apply for small grants.

We have helped groups with their publicity and newsletters.

We have helped groups develop child protection policies and vulnerable adults policies.

We have offered training in a number of areas including First Aid; safeguarding; committee skills; Finding Funding.

A stronger voice for rural issues

The project can also help you work together with other groups on common issues by forming partnerships. The project can help groups put forward their concerns to local decision makers and aims to help communication and understanding to flow in both directions.

'To represent the sector well we need to understand all groups' points of view. We particularly want to increase the involvement of rural groups’ says Lyz Mckenna from the Voluntary Action Network (VAN).

Community Led Planning

A community-led plan is a community's own vision for its future and an action plan on how to achieve it. Community-led plans allow rural communities to make themselves heard and initiate actions to improve the quality of life locally.
