What´s going on in Bradford?

Shipley and Bingley Voluntary Services (SBVS) and Keighley Voluntary Services (KVS) are working in partnership to deliver two new projects. Both projects will enable rural groups to access support and services to enable them to become more effective.

Recruiting the next generation of volunteers in the Wharfedale Valley

Volunteers in the Wharfedale area recognise that they are not recruiting the number of new volunteers they require to sustain their activity. Children and Young People, the next generation are a priority within the Bradford Big Plan. Bradford Metropolitan District Council intends to:

"Improve education so children enjoy school, achieve their potential and have their contribution recognised by everyone."

SBVS and KVS are working in partnership with the Volunteering Bradford vinvlolved team. Ilkley Grammar School, are now working in partnership with vinvolved to develop a process whereby young people in the Ilkley area can engage with the voluntary and community sector.

SBVS and KVS are encouraging local voluntary and community organisations in the Wharfedale valley to provide opportunities for young people to engage with their local community.

Ensuring that organisations/settlements within the Bradford MDC accesses South Pennine Leader Funding

A number of Bradford Wards come within the South Pennine area including part of Bingley and Bingley Rural, Worth Valley, Craven, part of Ilkley, part of Keighley East, and part of Wharfedale. Bradford Ward Councillors want to ensure that Bradford accesses its fair share of this funding stream.

Working closely with Area Offices in Shipley and Keighley, SBVS and KVS are involved in identifying potential projects that local organisations (in partnership with Parish Councils) can submit to attract Leader Funding. At present we are at an early stage in the process.

Community Led Planning

A community-led plan is a community's own vision for its future and an action plan on how to achieve it. Community-led plans allow rural communities to make themselves heard and initiate actions to improve the quality of life locally.
